Event description: Art House 310 will host First Friday featuring work by Rhett Evans and Josh Jonico. Evans’ exhibition showcases his development as a woodworker and CNC artist, with intricately carved pieces made from layered wood selected for its color and grain. Jonico, a contemporary Native artist based in Wichita, uses dynamic colors, rich textures and layers of original imagery in his paintings, including portraits inspired by black-and-white photographs and abstract works that incorporate hidden images and symbolic elements. The exhibition will be on display through Oct. 25.

Event description: Gallery 12 will host First Friday Opening Receptions featuring “Series,” the latest exhibition by local printmaker and painter Doug Billings, who is Gallery 12’s featured artist for October. Billings will give a gallery talk at 7 p.m. about his approach to creating art by working from one “series” to another. Local ceramist David Long will also be exhibiting, with music provided by local musician and artist Victor Rose during the reception.

Event description: Hopping Gnome Brewing will host Wichita By Night featuring local photographer Timothy Larsen as the featured artist for October. Inspired by nostalgia, music and community, Larsen’s work captures scenes from the past in contemporary ways, creating feelings of discovery, belonging and curiosity. The event will also feature the last First Friday Artisan Market of the season with Haute Handmade, while Slingin Birds will be serving dinner from 5-8 p.m.

Featured artists: Group exhibition of 33 ceramic artists from across the nation

Event description: The Wichita Ceramics National Exhibition brings together ceramic artists from across the nation to showcase functional and sculptural works in clay. The exhibition has partnered with Empty Bowls Wichita, an artist-driven effort to raise awareness of food insecurity and support local food pantries. A portion of all sales will be donated to Empty Bowls Wichita. The exhibition will be on display through Oct. 31.
