Wichita, Kan., Sept. 14, 2026 – Downtown Wichita is calling on individuals, businesses, clubs and community organizations to pitch in during the Fall 2026 Downtown Clean-Up Day on Friday, Oct. 9.

From 9 a.m. to noon, volunteers will work together on projects throughout downtown, including landscaping and planting, painting Gallery Alley and picking up litter.

The volunteer effort is in addition to the Downtown Wichita Clean Team, which works to keep downtown clean and welcoming six days a week.

“Downtown is everybody’s front yard, and it takes all of us pitching in to keep it looking its best,” said Heather Schroeder, executive director of Downtown Wichita. “We’re inviting people to spend a few hours with us, get their hands dirty and help make a visible difference in the places where our community comes together.”

Volunteers will meet at Downtown Wichita’s offices at 501 E. Douglas Ave. to check in, grab a breakfast pastry and coffee, and receive their assignments before heading out with their groups. Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC) has generously provided T-shirts for volunteers.

The fall clean-up follows a successful spring event, where volunteers collected 152 bags of trash, painted 16 blocks of curbing and underpass walls, planted 29 new plants and spread 165 bags of mulch throughout landscaped areas.
